Walker Up for Senior CLASS Award

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four in April.
MINNEAPOLIS – Sammy Walker is one of 20 candidates in the running for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award as Gopher men's hockey captain has been recognized for excelling on and off the ice.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
A native of Edina, Minn., Walker is the first player in Gopher Hockey history to serve as a team captain for three years. The forward is Minnesota's active leading scorer with 98 points (41 goals, 47 assists) in 123 career games while he has tallied 13 points (seven goals, six assists) already this year while skating in all 18 games. A two-time All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and the 2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, the Tampa Bay Lightning prospect was recognized with Minnesota's Elwin "Doc" Romnes Leadership & Sportsmanship Award and the Donald M. Clark Community Service Award last season.
In the classroom, Walker is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (earning the accolade every year he has been eligible) while also adding Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and AHCA All-America Scholar merits last year as a junior.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to ten finalists later in the season. Those ten names will then be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character, and competition.
