The new addition will become the fifth tournament on the Gophers schedule this season

MINNEAPOLIS - The Gophers announced an addition to the 2021-22 schedule on Wednesday evening, as they will now be slated to compete at the 2022 Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2. The Southern Scuffle is annually one of the toughest tournaments in collegiate wrestling, and currently has ranked teams such Cornell, Missouri, NC State, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech on this year's participants list.

It will be the fifth tournament on Minnesota's schedule this season as they have already participated in the Bison Open, Daktronics Open, and Cliff Keen Invitational. They are set to compete in Cedar Falls, Iowa for the UNI Open this weekend.

This years' Scuffle will mark the first time that the Maroon and Gold has participated in the event since their fourth-place finish in 2017 when Ethan Lizak took the crown at 125 pounds, highlighting a total of three finalists and seven placers for Minnesota.

Minnesota has not yet determined which student-athletes are expected to participate in the event.
