MINNEAPOLIS - After an excess of impressive performances during the Gophers'Â sweep last weekend, junior Max McHugh, redshirt senior Sarah Bacon and freshman Sawyer Grimes have all received weekly Big Ten Conference honors as announced by the Big Ten on Wednesday afternoon. McHugh was named the Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season, while this week's accolades mark the first of the campaign for Bacon and Grimes, who were named the Diver of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively.

McHugh's nod comes on the heels of yet another exceptional performance in the individual breaststroke events, having touched first in the 100 breast with a nation's best time of 50.55 seconds, as well as first in the 200 breast with a nation's fifth-fastest time of 1:53.17. Both performances reflect improvements on his previous season best times set two weeks prior in Madison, Wis.
Along with his 100 breast time (50.63) from the Gophers' only other meet this season, McHugh now holds the top-two fastest swims in the event this year, with the next fastest coming in more than 0.50 seconds slower than either time.
This is now the 11th Big Ten weekly nod of McHugh's collegiate career, after he was named Swimmer of the Week two weeks ago as well. McHugh garnered six different Freshman of the Week awards during the 2018-19 season, as well as Swimmer of the Week on three occasions during the 2019-20 season.

Bacon swept both springboard events for the second week in a row, keeping her record perfect on the season. The most impressive feat the Indianapolis, Ind. native accomplished over her senior day meet was in the one-meter event, where she took gold and set a new Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center record with a final score of 353.20. Her three-meter score of 370.20 earned her gold as well.
Both of Bacon's scores reflect NCAA 'A' cut scores and improvements to her scores from two weeks prior, guaranteeing her a spot at the 2021 NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
This week's award marks Bacon's third Diver of the Week honor and fourth overall Big Ten weekly honor, after receiving Freshman of the Week once during the 2016-17 season and Diver of the Week twice during the 2017-18 season.

After posting an eye-turning performance in his first collegiate action two weeks ago, Grimes continued to impress this weekend, adding three more top-two finishes to his resume. This week's successes came for the Las Vegas, Nev. native in the form of a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle (9:06.74) and a pair of second place finishes in the 200 backstroke (1:45.97) and 200 individual medley (1:49.71).
Grimes, Bacon and McHugh have now become the first trio of Gophers selected to receive weekly awards since 2019 when McHugh, sophomore Gavin Olson and former Gopher and All-American Lindsey Kozelsky managed the feat.
With this week's announcement, the Gophers have officially secured four weekly honors through the shortened dual-meet season, equating to a whooping 33 percent of possible honors collected.
