Loper Reaches Perfection in Win at Iowa Tri-Meet

The No. 12 University of Minnesota gymnastics team put up an exciting performance at the Iowa tri-meet, posting a team score of 196.975 to take first place overall and beat both No. 11 Iowa (196.775) and Maryland (195.350). The Gophers are now 3-2 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
Notable
Senior Ona Loper earned a 10 on vault and became the first Gopher to reach perfection this season. This is Loper's second career perfect 10 on the event in her collegiate career.
Mya Hooten had an impressive competition in three events. The freshman won the bars title (9.875), and tied for third on both floor (9.925) and vault (9.875).
All-Around
For the third week in a row, Lexy Ramler claimed the all-around title. The senior won the beam title (9.950), earned second on vault (9.900), tied for third on floor (9.925) and tied for fourth on bars (9.825). Loper finished fourth in the all-around after a perfect 10 on vault to win the title. She tied Ramler for third on floor (9.925) and fourth on bars (9.825),
Event Breakdown
Beam
Ramler continued her reign on beam and earned a 9.950 to win the event. Ali Sonier was welcomed back to the lineup and tied for third with a 9.875. Lexi Montgomery and Abbie Nylin put up a pair of 9.850s for fifth place. Beam staple Mary Korlin-Downs wrapped up the scoring with a 9.675. The Gophers totaled a 49.200 on the event.
Floor
A trio of Gophers in Ramler, Loper and Hooten tied for third place on floor (9.925) and led the Maroon and Gold to a 49.150 team score. Freshman Emily Koch continued to be consistent on the event and added a 9.725, while Mallory LeNeave posted a 9.650.
Vault
Minnesota shined on vault and recorded a season-high 49.425. Loper's perfect 10 highlighted the lineup and earned her an event title. Ramler was second (9.900), and the duo of Hooten and Maddie Quarles tied for third (9.875). Freshman Gianna Gerdes improved to a 9.775 and set a new career-high.
Bars
Hooten won the first bars title of her career in a statement 9.875 routine. Tiarre Sales tied for second (9.850). Ramler, Loper and Montgomery all ended at fourth on the leaderboard after each posting a 9.825. This was a career-high for Montgomery.
