Gopher Baseball Announces 2021 Schedule

MINNEAPOLIS – The Gopher Baseball program has officially announced their schedule for the upcoming 2021 season. Minnesota will compete in a 13-weekend, Big Ten Conference-only regular season slate, beginning with the opener on Friday, March 5 at home against Indiana.
Every weekend of the 2021 season, Minnesota will play either three or four games against conference opponents. There will be no mid-week or non-conference contests included in the schedule.
The 2021 schedule includes an even 22 home games and 22 road contests, with the Gophers opening the season via a pair of weekends as the host team at U.S. Bank Stadium. To begin the year, Minnesota will play two games apiece against Indiana (March 5, March 7) and Rutgers (March 6, March 7) at U.S. Bank Stadium. Thereafter, Minnesota will host Illinois (March 12-14), Michigan State (April 2-4), Michigan (April 16-18), Ohio State (May 7-9) and Purdue (May 21-23) in a traditional home series format, with each series being three games in length with the exception of Illinois being a four-game series. A double-header will take place between Minnesota and Illinois on Saturday, March 13.
Minnesota will travel to Northwestern (March 19-21), Nebraska (March 26-28), Iowa (April 9-11), Indiana (April 23-25) and Maryland (April 30-May 1) for traditional road contests. Each of these matchups represent three-game series with the exception of Nebraska, which will be a four-game series. Additionally, the Gophers will travel to Penn State (May 14-16) for four total games against the Nittany Lions and Rutgers. The same format will take place the weekend of May 28-30, when Minnesota visits Purdue for four total games against the Boilermakers and Penn State. Specific details for those two weekends will be announced at a later date.
A complete look of the 2021 season schedule can be found below. There will not be a Big Ten Tournament held this season.
With a 2021 schedule now in hand, the Gophers will receive their first opportunity to get back on the diamond since March 11, 2020 – which will eventually mark the end of a span of 360 consecutive days without competition. The Gophers previously ended the truncated 2020 season on a two-game winning streak, having swept Creighton in a mid-week series from March 10-11.
After finishing the season at 8-10 overall in 2020, Minnesota will look to quickly flip the script with a roster returning seven positional starters from last year. Included in the Maroon & Gold's 2020 resume were signature wins against Oregon, Arizona, TCU and North Carolina – among others.
Perhaps most notably, the 2021 campaign will represent head coach John Anderson's 40th year at the helm of the program. With 1,325 wins in hand entering the year, Anderson is already the winningest coach in Big Ten history and ranks second in victories among active Division I head baseball coaches.
Additional game times and broadcast information as well as specific opponents for the weekends of May 14 and May 28 will be announced at a later date. All schedules are subject to change.
At this time, there will be no ticket sales for Gopher Baseball home games as Minnesota Department of Health guidelines specify that all venues must reduce occupant capacity to no more than 25%, not to exceed 250 patrons (outdoor venues) or 250 patrons (indoor venues). All Big Ten institutions have agreed to limit attendance to immediate families of competing student-athletes and coaches/team staff.
Although there will be no general public ticket sales, fans can still support the Maroon & Gold by purchasing fan cutouts for Siebert Field. Cutouts cost $50 each and are just $25 for U of M students.
