Hear from the Gophers track & field captains as the team competes at the Big Ten Indoor Championship this week.

MINNEAPOLIS – The Golden Gopher track & field team captains shared their outlook as the team prepares for this week's Big Ten Indoor Championships. The three-day competition begins Thursday and wraps up Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Gopher Sports: How do you feel heading into the Big Ten Indoor Championships this week?

Abby Kohut-Jackson: I'm really excited to see what the team can do this week at the Big Ten Championships! I think everybody is really eager to get out there and compete. Our team always finds a way to dig deep and compete our hardest at Big Ten meets, and I think this week will be no exception to that :)

Eric Rousemiller: I personally feel very excited about this week. Individually, I have been training well and am very close to a big breakthrough, so I am excited to go compete and find the big throw! As a team, I think that both the men's and women's teams can and will have a great weekend together. We have been through a lot over the past year as a family, and we are primed to go out and have a big meet together as a family. As this is the men's team's last Big Ten Indoor Meet, we want to go out there and show that we belong here as a program.

Sophie Schmitz: We have been waiting for this week for a long time. We have some big goals for this year, and I can't wait to show what we got. I feel ready personally, and know that once we get there and start competing the energy of the team will get us to where we need to be.

Erin Dunning: I am STOKED! Enjoying every moment leading up to Big Tens, as we have been blessed with this opportunity. We have a lot of talent, so I'm excited about what we can do together and how we can represent the University of Minnesota.

Mike Herauf: I am very exciting heading into indoor Big Tens this weekend, and I'm so grateful for the chance to compete! This team has put in a countless amount of hours preparing for this moment. I can't wait to cheer on my teammates and see something special!

Val Larson: I am super excited for Big Tens both individually and for the team! Our team is in a really good spot and has had a great season so far, so I think we have a chance to do really well if we work for each other. Personally I have some big goals that I want to achieve to help the women contend for a team title!

Alec Basten: This Big Ten meet is a little bittersweet. It is the last time the men's team will represent the University at an indoor Big Ten meet. However, it is exciting because after everything people have been through this year, we have the privilege to compete at a Big Ten meet as a team. The opportunity to compete at these meets is a major reason many of us signed up to become a Gopher, and a few months ago we were not sure if we would get this opportunity. The guys get to leave their final mark on a historic indoor track & field program.
