Following a two week break in competition, the University of Minnesota women's golf team opened play at the Florida State Match-Up on Friday in Tallahassee, Fla. The Gophers posted a 312, 25-over par opening round to end the day at 13th.

"We continue to work on our process and be patient for the results we know will come," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "This course will punish shots executed on the wrong side of the pin, and we made too many of those mistakes today. I'm confident we can stick to our game plan and have a better scoring day tomorrow."

Sophomore Grace Curran leads Minnesota and is tied for 26th overall in the competition at 76, 4-over par. Both Joanne Free and Emma Carpenter are just one stroke behind and tied for 40th after shooting a 77 on the day. Free is on the tournament's birdies leaderboard with three. A duo of Gophers in Annabelle Ackroyd and Grace Kellar finish T-66 with a pair of 83s.

The Florida State Match-Up continues on Saturday, February 27th for round two of the event.
