Ramler Shatters All-Around Record as Gophers Place First at Big Five

The No. 8 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team took first place with an overall team score of 197.375 at tonight's Big Five meet against No. 19 Illinois (196.600), No. 26 Maryland (195.725), No. 21 Ohio State (195.275) and No. 38 Nebraska (195.200).

Notable
The Gophers set a new program record on bars, scoring a 49.575 team score on the event to eclipse the previous record of 49.525 set on February 15, 2019. 

Minnesota swept all four events in the five-team competition. The Maroon and Gold recorded a 49.575 on bars, 49.325 on beam, 49.250 on floor and 49.225 on vault. 

Lexy Ramler broke her own Gophers all-around record with a 39.850.  Her previous record was 39.725, also set on February 15, 2019. The new program-best score was highlighted by her first career perfect 10 on vault. Ramler scored a 9.925 or higher on each event and won every event title on the night. 


Quotable
"We are so proud of the way the team fought tonight," head coach Jenny Hansen said. "It was a breakthrough night for our bars squad and the beam team once again performed under pressure. Tonight was incredibly important for our confidence going into the championship season in just a few weeks."

"Tonight is one of those speechless nights for me," Ramler said. "Everything came together and it's just so amazing to continue to make history. I couldn't do it without this incredible team. They continue to push limits and build our team confidence as well as my own confidence. Each one of us are giving all our heart to truly create one heart as a team."

All-Around
Ramler won the all-around title for the fifth straight week and set a new program record score of 39.850. She swept the event titles and scored a 10.000 on vault, 9.975 on bars, 9.950 on beam and 9.925 on floor. 

Loper posted a 39.525 to place second in the all-around. The Bluffton, S.C. native recorded a 9.900 on floor, 9.900 on bars, 9.875 on vault and 9.850 on beam. 

Event Breakdown
Vault
Ramler posted the best vault score of the meet for the Gophers with her perfect 10. Loper recorded a 9.875, which was good for second, and Mya Hooten was fourth with a 9.850. Halle Remlinger and Maddie Quarles rounded out the rotation with a pair of 9.750s. Minnesota finished vault with a team event score of 49.225.

Bars
The Maroon and Gold set a program record 49.575 on the uneven bars. Ramler earned the top Minnesota score as she pulled in a 9.975 from the judges. This ties her career-best on the event. The duo of Hannah Willmarth and Tiarre Sales posted matching 9.925s. Willmarth set a new career-high for the second straight week. Loper followed in the scoring order with a 9.900 while Remlinger scored a 9.850 on her debut on bars for the Gophers. 

Beam
Ramler took the crown on beam with a 9.950. Mary Korlin-Downs followed closely behind in a second place 9.900 finish. Sales and Loper were next with their respective scores of 9.875 and 9.850. Abbie Nylin's 9.750 finished out the top five scores for the team to bring the Maroon and Gold to an event total of 49.325.


Floor
The Gophers put together a team score of 49.250 on floor exercise, led by Ramler and her 9.925 on the event. Loper posted the next highest score for Minnesota with a 9.900 in second place. Hooten contributed a 9.850 and Mallory LeNeave had a strong 9.800. Emily Koch added a 9.775 to round out the rotation.

The Gophers return to Maturi Pavilion for the final home meet of the regular season. Minnesota will face off against Nebraska on Friday, March 5th at 2:00 pm on BTN+.
