Gophers Split Action Against Ohio State

The No. 22/25 University of Minnesota softball program split action against Ohio State, today at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Fla. With the split, Minnesota is now 2-2 on the season, after it also split action against Maryland Friday.Â
On the day, MacKenzie Denson had three hits in six at bats, a double and a run scored. MaKenna Partain had two RBIs, a hit and a run scored, while also walking seven times. Emily Hansen went 2-7 and had a double.Â
The Golden Gophers are back in action tomorrow when they play Indiana at 2:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. CT. Both games will be streamed on BTN +.Â
Game One Recap
Minnesota fell 2-1 in 11 innings to open the second day of the season. With the two teams going scoreless through nine innings, Ohio State broke the tie with single to right, which scored the runner from third.Â
Down a run, the Gophers batted in the bottom half of the inning. Kemmetmueller scored Chloe Evans from third to tie the game and sent it into the 11th inning.Â
The Buckeyes, however responded when Kaitlyn Coffman added a double to score the runner at third for the 2-1 lead.Â
It would be all that OSU needed for the win. Payton Buresch earned the win (1-0), while Allison Smith gained the save. Amber Fiser, while pitching a stellar game, picked up the loss. She went all 11 innings, did not allow an earned run, struck out five and allowed four hits.Â
Hansen went 2-4 in the game, while Kemmetmueller was 1-4 with the RBI. Partain also walked four times.Â
Game 2 Recap
Minnesota walked a total of 13 times and added four hits en route to an 8-0 win for the split.Â
Partain had four walks, two RBI, a run scored and a hit. Carlie Brandt scored four runs and had a hit, while Katelyn Kemmetmueller added a run.Â
Autumn Pease picked up her first win of the season. She's now 1-1 on the season.Â
Minnesota plated two runs in the top of the first when a passed ball was credited to the OSU catcher, while the second run came across on an error for a 2-0 lead.Â
The Gophers added to their lead in the second when Partain hit an RBI single, which knocked in Brandt. Minnesota held a 4-0 lead when Sydney Strelow hit a sac fly that brought in Brandt.Â
Minnesota plated another two in the sixth off an OSU error as Denson and Brandt both scored runs. The Gophers closed out its scoring in the top of the seventh when they walked in two runs. Ali Lindner, Brandt and Kinch walked, while Maddy Ehlke saw her first collegiate at bat. She walked and gained her first RBI when Lindner scored. Partain also walked and brought home Brandt for the final Gopher run.Â
