Gophers Gain a Pair of Wins Over Michigan State

The University of Minnesota added a pair of wins against Michigan State, today in Leesburg, Fla. The Golden Gophers won, 5-3, 6-2, against the Spartans and improved to 8-3 this season.
On the day, Katelyn Kemmetmueller went 3-6, had a home run, two RBIs and scored three runs. MaKenna Partain went 3-7 with three runs scored a double and an RBI, while Sara Kinch and Sydney Strelow both went 2-6.
Amber Fiser and Autumn Pease each picked up a win today. Pease struck out nine batters, while Fiser struck out seven.
The Gophers are back in action tomorrow when they face the Spartans again for a single game at 10:30 a.m. CT. The game will be streamed on BTN +.
Game One Recap
The Golden Gophers belted two home runs en route to a 5-3 win over Michigan State. Kemmetmueller and DenHartog each hit their second home run of the season in the win. Kemmetmueller went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while DenHartog went 2-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Partain and Strelow each garnered a hit and went 1-4 and 1-2 respectively.
Minnesota scored a run in the first inning when DenHartog singled to left and scored Partain for a 1-0 lead. The Gophers added to their lead in the third when Kemmetmueller hit a solo home run to left field for a 2-0 lead. The Gophers then added their third run of the game when Strelow scored off a Partain single for a 3-0 lead.
The Spartans got on the board with two runs in the fifth inning off a RBI single and a ground out, to cut the Gopher lead to one. However, in the bottom half of the fifth, DenHartog hit a two-run home run to right center, as she scored her and Kemmetmueller for a 5-2 lead.
MSU cut the Gopher lead to two off an RBI triple, but the Gopher lead was too much for a Spartan comeback.
Autumn Pease picked up the win when she pitched six innings, allowed three earned runs on five hits and struck out nine. Fiser picked up the save when she pitched the seventh and had three strikeouts.
Game Two Recap
The Gophers scored three runs in the third inning and two in the fourth as the Gophers won, 6-2 to sweep the day. Sara Kinch hit her second home run of the weekend, while Partain went 2-3 with two runs scored. Emily Hansen went 1-4 with two RBIs and a run scored Carlie Brandt also went 1-1 with two walks and a run scored.
Despite MSU taking an early 1-0 lead in the first, Minnesota scored three in the third to take the lead. Hansen doubled to left, which scored both Partain and Kemmetmueller. Minnesota plated its third run of the game off a Strelow RBI single, which knocked in Hansen.
Minnesota added to its lead when Brandt scored in the fourth. Kemmetmueller delivered an RBI single, which scored Partain. The Gophers added their final blow when Kinch hit a solo shot to left center.
Fiser picked up the win, her fourth of the season. She went all seven innings, allowed two runs, one of which was earned. She also struck out four.
