Gophers Fall to Wisconsin

The No. 4 University of Minnesota fell in four sets to No. 1 Wisconsin, tonight at Maturi Pavilion. With the loss, the Golden Gophers dropped to 11-2 overall and in Big Ten play. Wisconsin improves to 11-0.
Taylor Landfair had 15 kills and hit .400, while Regan Pittman had nine kills and hit .471. She also had three blocks, while Shea Rubright had five. Adanna Rollins provided nine kills and eight digs. Bayley McMenimen had 24 assists, two aces and nine digs. Rachel Kilkelly added three aces and seven digs.
The Gophers, who were without two of its starters, lost the first set, 14-25, won the second 25-22, and lost the third and fourth, 15-25, 23-25. The Badgers hit .303 for the match, while Minnesota hit .205. They also had 10 aces to Minnesota's seven and 52 digs to Minnesota's 47.

"We won't get into the discussion of noble losses, but I do think that the team competed and relative to what we could control, we were doing a lot of good things against a good team," head coach Hugh McCutcheon said. "The credit goes to Wisconsin for playing a good match and we congratulate them. I think there's a lot of good that we got from tonight and some important lessons we can learn from that outcome that I think can help us, moving forward. Given this was the first time we played this system, and players in different spots doing different things, I thought there were a lot of really good things to take from that performance."

-Although playing in every match this season, tonight officially marked the first career start for Landfair. Hunter Atherton saw her first action as a Golden Gopher this season.
