Gophers Set for NCAA Indoors

Ten Gophers will represent the Maroon & Gold at the NCAA Indoor Championships this week.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Ten representatives from the Golden Gopher track & field program are scheduled to compete at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas this Thursday through Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.

Gophers at NCAA Indoors
Both Alec Basten and Amira Young will compete in two events to lead the Gophers. In total, six Gophers earned eight entries into individual events, and Minnesota's women's 4x400-meter relay team rounds out the nine total accepted entries for the Maroon & Gold. Basten will race the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters while Young will run both the 60 meters and 200 meters after winning both events at the Big Ten Championships last weekend. 

The Maroon & Gold have representatives from both genders in the 5,000 meters and weight throw as B1G 3,000-meter champion Bethany Hasz will run the women's 5,000 meters along with Basten in the men's race. Big Ten champion Tess Keyzers and Big Ten runner-up Kaleb Siekmeier are both set to compete in the weight throw as well. 

Allison Gerads will make her NCAA Championships debut in the pentathlon after winning the Big Ten title with a career-best 4,088 points in the event, and the Gophers' women's 4x400-meter relay team of Jayla CampbellJanielle JosephsVal Larson, and Abigail Schaaffe rounds out Minnesota's entries after winning the B1G crown in a season-best 3:35.51, good for second in program history. 

About the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships
The 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be spread out over three days this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Randal Tyson Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. Live results are available via FlashResults.com, and live championship coverage will be streamed on ESPN3. Additional details on times of the live ESPN3 coverage will be forthcoming. A re-air of the championship will take place starting at 8 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 14 on ESPNU. No fans will be permitted to attend the competition.
