Gophers Open Home Season This Weekend

HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
• For the first time in 678 days, Minnesota will play a collegiate softball game at Jane Sage Cowles when the Gophers host the Purdue Boilermakers, April 2-4. The Gophers' last home game dates back to May 25, 2019 when Minnesota hosted a 2019 Super Regional.
• Games this weekend can be found on BTN +. The weekend format is a single game on Friday, doubleheader on Saturday and a single game scheduled Sunday. 
• Minnesota played Purdue four times in 2019, and went a perfect 4-0 against the Boilermakers. The Gophers swept a three-game series from March 29-31 and won 5-1, 5-1, 8-2 at Jane Sage Cowles. The Gophers also faced the Boilermakers in the first round of the Big Ten tournament, 4-3, to advance to the Big Ten semifinals, which was held in Bloomington, Ind. Natalie DenHartog batted .538 against the Boilermakers in 2019, with two home runs and seven hits. 
• Purdue enters the Minnesota series with a 5-11 record. The Boilermakers went 4-8 in Leesburg, Fla., and dropped three of four games to Iowa last weekend in their home opener. Rachel Becker leads the Boilermaker offensive charge as she's batting .490, followed by Ryleigh Scott at .400. Sydney Bates and Ashley Peters have seen the most time in the circle for Purdue, pitching 34.0 and 33.1 innings, respectively. 

LAST WEEKEND NOTES
• Minnesota and the Big Ten returned to campus sites last weekend when the Golden Gophers won three of four at Illinois. Minnesota won the first three games (6-0, 5-1, 9-5) and fell in the series finale Sunday (8-0). The Gophers are now 12-4 on the season. 
• Last weekend, the Golden Gophers hit nine home runs, 29 hits, 19 walks and had 19 RBIs. Katelyn Kemmetmueller hit .444 on the weekend when she had two home runs, four hits and three RBIs. MaKenna Partain hit .429 when she had six hits, scored three runs and walked three times. 
MaKenna Partain broke the Minnesota career runs record on Saturday. She now has 199 in her career moving past Tyler Walker, who ended her career with 197.
• The Gopher pitching corps holds a 1.66 ERA this season, which ranks 22nd nationally. Autumn Pease holds a 1.01 ERA, while Amber Fiser is at 1.84. The duo each has two saves and has pitched 48.2 and 57.0 innings pitched. Ava Dueck and Kianna Jones has also seen action in the circle this year. 

ON THE DOCKET
• Minnesota is back on the road next weekend when it travels to Northwestern, April 9-11 in Evanston, Ill. Northwestern currently holds the top spot in the conference at 15-1 and ranked 21st and 24th in the current polls. The April 9 game is televised on ESPNU, while the April 11 game is on Big Ten Network. The Northwestern games would also be the first televised games for the Gophers this year.
