MINNEAPOLIS – With all five golfers in the top 20 of the leaderboard, the Minnesota men's golf team sits in second place following the first two rounds of the Git R Done Invitational Saturday at Firethorn Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb.

Senior Angus Flanagan is currently tied for fourth at 1-under-par, while junior Lincoln Johnson and freshman Ben Warian are in a tie for 13th at 3-over, and senior Thomas Longbella and sophomore Connor Glynn are one stroke behind them and tied for 18th.

As a team, the Golden Gophers are 5-over at 573 (290-283), four shots behind tournament leader Michigan State. The Spartans also have the individual leader in James Piot, who is 5-under.

Flanagan is four shots back of Piot after posting rounds of 70 and 71. Starting on the ninth hole, Flanagan was 1-under on the back nine of his opening round, going birdie-par-bogey-par-birdie between holes 11-15. He was even on the front as his birdie on No. 3 cancelled out his bogey on No. 5. The 70 marked his fourth straight round under par, including last week's Boilermaker Invitational. In Flanagan's second round, he was even over the back nine with two birdies on holes 11 and 18. He bogeyed No. 2 but immediately followed with a birdie on No. 3 and then posted pars the rest of the way for his fifth straight round at par or better.

Johnson struggled in an opening-round 76 with one birdie on No. 15 not enough to overcome six bogeys. However, he bounced back with a 2-under 69 in round two, his lowest round of the season and his first time breaking 70 this spring. In fact, only three golfers had a lower score in round two. Beginning his round on No. 11, Johnson started with three consecutive bogeys, but responded with five birdies over the next 10 holes, including three in a row between holes 14-16. He added additional birdies on the second and fifth holes.

Warian matched Johnson at 145, posting rounds of 74 and 71. Warian's opening round consisted of three bogeys and 15 pars. In his second round, he was even after his first three holes before a birdie on No. 15. He bogeyed No. 16, but was back in the red three holes later with a 3 on the par-4 1st. He remained under par over the next seven holes before finishing the day with a bogey on No. 9.

Rounds of 72 and 74 have Longbella at a 4-over 146. He started his opening round on No. 10 with back-to-back birdies, only to finish +1 for the back nine. He was even on the front with birdies on holes 2 and 9 and bogey on holes 3 and 7. He was 1-over again on the back nine during his second round, but got under par by going birdie-birdie on the first two holes on the course. Unfortunately the rest of the front nine featured four more bogeys.

Glynn alternated Longbella's scores by going 74 in the first round and 72 in the second. Three-over through six holes after starting on No. 13, Glynn birdied holes 1 and 2 and finished even on the front side. In round two, Glynn was 2-over through six holes but got one back with a birdie on No. 3. He bogeyed No. 8, but had a second birdie on No. 11, his penultimate hole.

Minnesota had one other golfer competing at the event as junior Harry Plowman-Ollington was making his spring debut as an individual. He is currently tied for 40th after recording an 8-over 150 (74-76) through 36 holes. He started on the 15th hole and was 1-over through four holes before carding an eagle on the par-4 1st. He joined sophomore Harrison Arnold as the only Gophers to record an eagle this season. A birdie on No. 3 got him to 2-under, but he followed with three bogeys and a double. He added two more birdies on No. 9 and 12 before closing with bogey-bogey. In round two, he picked up birdies on holes 2 and 11 but had five bogeys and a double.

The Git R Done Invitational concludes Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Gophers will begin on holes 1-4, while Plowman-Ollington will start on No. 16.
