Pease Tosses No-Hitter as Gophers Win Doubleheader

4/17/2021 5:11:00 PM | Softball

Pease recorded the 32nd no-hitter in Minnesota history on Saturday.

MINNEAPOLIS – Autumn Pease's first career no-hitter highlighted the day as No. 24/23 Minnesota added two wins over Nebraska on Saturday at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium. The Maroon & Gold have won eight-straight games – the longest active streak in the Big Ten – and are unbeaten in 10 of its last 11 games.

After a walk-off rally win last night in the series opener, Minnesota (22-5) picked up a 2-0 win in Saturday's opener before claiming a 9-0 victory in six innings to close out the day. The Gophers are now 3-0 against Nebraska (14-13) this season with the weekend finale scheduled for Sunday.

Game One
Pease dazzled in the day's opener for her first career no-hitter with the Maroon & Gold and the 32nd no-hitter in University of Minnesota history. The junior from Murrieta, Calif., struck out three and walked one to improve to 10-1 on the season behind a 2-0 win over the Cornhuskers on Saturday.

The Minnesota offense plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning, and that's all it would take. After coming on to pinch run for Sara Kinch after a double to left, Macy Gill advanced to third and scored on a throwing error for the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Ellee Jensen reached first on an infield single and was later brought home on a single up the middle by Natalie DenHartog as all three Gopher hits came in the inning and proved instrumental in the win for the home team.

Olivia Ferrell threw all six innings for Nebraska, giving up two runs on three hits to move to 8-7 on the year.

Game Two
What started out looking like another tight battle between the two Big Ten opponents didn't end that way as Minnesota scored nine runs in the final three innings of play on Saturday for the 9-0 win in six innings.

Carlie Brandt opened the scoring in the fourth inning, plating two with a double to left field before later scoring on a fielding error. The Maroon & Gold replicated the three-run inning in the fifth inning and again in the sixth inning as Sara Kinch notched a three-run home run to left in the fifth and Natalie DenHartog did the same an inning later to close out the game early. Kinch's home run extended her hitting streak to five games.

Amber Fiser improved to 10-4 on the season with the win, throwing five innings with four strikeouts and two hits. Ava Dueck closed out the final inning for Minnesota. Kaylin Kinney took the loss for Nebraska.

Noteworthy
Minnesota has now won 14-straight games against Nebraska dating back to the 2015 season…the Gophers lead the Big Ten with 30 home runs this season including a conference-best nine from DenHartog, who ended Saturday's second contest early with a three-run shot on her birthday.
