‘U’ Sweeps Varsity Eight Races in Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 16 Gopher rowing program swept the Varsity Eight races on Saturday morning at the Iowa Rowing Regatta, ending the competition with two wins at Lake MacBride.
Competing against No. 18 Iowa, No. 19 Wisconsin, Drake and Kansas, Minnesota saved its best finishes for its final races of the day as the Second Varsity Eight and First Varsity Eight boats won back-to-back races to close out the day on the water. The Second Varsity Eight turned in a race victory with a time of 6:42.66, just shy of two seconds ahead of Wisconsin at 6:44.59 and well ahead of Iowa at 6:50.29. The First Varsity Eight added to the celebration in the final race of the day with a win at 6:30.72 with Iowa taking second at 6:31.25 and Wisconsin coming in third at 6:36.01.
The Second Varsity Four boat added a second-place finish in its race at 7:42.11 with third-place showings from the First Varsity Four Boat at 7:40.45, the First Novice Eight Boat at 7:05.78 and the Second Novice Eight Boat at 7:34.51.
