Dale England Cup on Deck for Minnesota

No. 14 Minnesota will take on No. 10 Indiana and Michigan State this weekend.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 14 Gopher rowing program will have its final competition ahead of the Big Ten championships this weekend, racing at the 12th annual Dale England Cup on Saturday, May 1. Indiana will host the event at Lake Lemon in Bloomington, Ind. 

The action gets underway at 8:00 a.m. CT with the first action for Minnesota set for 8:40 a.m. CT. 

ABOUT THE DALE ENGLAND CUP
Minnesota will compete against No. 10 Indiana and Michigan State at the 12th annual Dale England Cup. Team scoring will include scores from the First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and First Varsity Four races. A complete explantion of the team scoring rules can be found here.

FOLLOW THE ACTION
Indiana plans on streaming the Dale England Cup through its Facebook page (Facebook.com/IndianaRowing). Unfortunately, there will not be live stats for Saturday's competition.

IN THE RANKINGS
The Gophers head back into competition as the No. 14 team in this week's Pocock/CRCA Division I Rankings -- Minnesota's highest national ranking since coming in at No. 14 on April 9, 2008. After receiving votes in the preseason polls, Minnesota has earned a national rankings in all seven in-season polls this year. 

FIRST VARSITY EIGHT EARNS B1G BOAT OF THE WEEK
Minneosta's First Varsity Eight boat was recognized as the Big Ten Boat of the Week on Tuesday as the Maroon & Gold claimed its first conference weekly honor since the First Varsity Eight was recognized on March 17, 2015. Competing on Lake MacBride on Saturday, the Maroon & Gold claimed a pair of race victories at the competition including the First Varsity Eight's win over No. 18 Iowa, No. 19 Wisconsin, Drake and Kansas with a time of 6:30.72. The Second Varsity Eight also earned a win on Saturday with a time of 6:42.66 as Minnesota closed out the day with back-to-back wins. 

SUCCESS OFF THE WATER
Minnesota is coming off of one of its best semesters ever in the classroom as the Gophers set a new program record with a 3.42 team cumulative grade point average while its 3.58 team term grade point average was second in program history behind last spring's score. As a department, the University of Minnesota set a new school record with a 3.41 cumulative grade point average as the Gophers increased the statistic for the sixth-straight semester. 

THREE TO LEAD IN 2021
Three Maroon & Gold student-athletes will guide the Gophers this season as captains with Meade Avery (Lyme, N.H.), Lindsay Eliasen (Chanhassen, Minn.) and Gabby Mullally (Neenah, Wis.) selected to lead the program through a unique season.

'U' SET FOR SIX COMPETITIONS IN 2021
Minnesota announced its competition schedule for the 2021 rowing season earlier this year with the Maroon & Gold prepared to race in six competitions. The Gophers start the year at the Cardinal Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tenn. (March 13-14), followed by a five-team competition at Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio (April 3). Minnesota then heads to the inaugural B1G Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio (April 17-18) before competing at Iowa (April 24) and the Dale England Cup in Bloomington, Ind. (May 1). The Big Ten Championships are currently scheduled to be held in Indianapolis (May 16). 

UP NEXT: BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Big Ten Conference has announced a change of setting for the 2021 Big Ten Rowing Championships. Originally slated to be held in Devil's Lake, Wis., the event will now be hosted at the Indianapolis Rowing Center in Indianapolis, Ind. The Big Ten championships will still be held on Sunday, May 16.
