Gophers Wrap Up Competition in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 18 Gopher rowing program returned to action today at the Big Ten/ACC Regatta, hosted by Ohio State at the Griggs Reservoir in Columbus,Ohio. 

Competing against nationally ranked opponents in No. 3 Virginia, No. 6 Ohio State and No. 10 Duke, Minnesota was led by a runner-up finish by the First Varsity Eight boat in the opening session, clocking a 7:05.15 to best Duke (7:08.88) and finish behind Ohio State (6:57.60). The Gophers First Varsity Eight Boat also recorded a third-place finish in the follow-up session with a time of 6:53.87 behind Ohio State (6:38.10) and Virginia (6:42.49). 

Minnesota's Second Varsity Eight Boat notched a pair of third-place finishes on Saturday, finishing in 7:20.20 in its first race of the day behind Virginia (6:56.50) and Ohio State (7:01.10) and adding a time of 7:38.98 in the second race behind Ohio State (7:16.0) and Duke (7:22.52). 

The Maroon & Gold First Varsity Four boat posted a time of 8:13.48 in the opening session on Saturday to come in after Ohio State (7:56.00) and Virginia (8:00.52) and followed up with a performance of 8:23.38 behind Duke (8:17.3) and Ohio State (8:19.91)

The University of Minnesota and the Gopher Rowing program would like to thank Ohio State Buckeyes for being gracious hosts and for going above and beyond with accomodations for today's competition. 

UP NEXT: B1G INVITATIONAL
After this weekend's competition in Ohio, the Gophers will return to action with the inaugural B1G Invitational in Bethel, Ohio (April 17-18). Hosted at Harsha Lake, the B1G Invitational will feature 16 collegiate women's rowing teams and over 600 athletes. Eight schools from the Big Ten will participate in the spring event including Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Rutgers and Wisconsin. Guest teams from outside of the Big Ten are expected to compete include Alabama, Brown, Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Tennessee, Virginia. Practice sessions will occur on April 16, with three rounds of racing over the course of the event, more than 70 races will be held throughout the weekend.
