Minnesota had two top-75 NFL Draft picks for the first time since 1978
The Washington Football Team selected Minnesota defensive back Benjamin St-Juste in the third round of the NFL Draft with the 74th overall pick on Friday night. Â
St-Juste played two seasons at Minnesota after joining the Gophers as a graduate transfer from Michigan prior to the 2019 season. He played in 18 career games and made 59 tackles for Minnesota, which included 1.5 tackles for loss. The long and rangy 6-3 prospect also broke up 13 passes in his career and was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2019.
St-Juste joins teammate Rashod Bateman in joining the NFL ranks, as Bateman was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round with the 27th overall pick.Â
St-Juste is the third Minnesota defensive back to be drafted in the last two years, joining Antoine Winfield Jr. (No. 45 to Tampa Bay in 2020) and Chris Williamson (No. 247 to New York Giants in 2020). Â
The 2021 draft is the first time that Minnesota has had two top-75 selections since 1978 when a trio of linebackers were selected in the top 43 picks. Mark Merrill was drafted by the New York Jets at No. 31, while Mike Hunt went to Green Bay at No. 34. Steve Stewart was taken by Atlanta at No. 43. Â Â
