MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota men's golf moved up one spot in the team standings at the Big Ten Championships following Saturday's second round at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

Sitting 11th after Friday's opening round, the Golden Gophers were eight shots better on Saturday with an 18-over-par 306. Their two-round total of 620 puts them in 10th place, 26 shots back of tournament leader Illinois, which is 18-over.

Senior Angus Flanagan remains the Gophers' top performer through 36 holes. He followed up an opening-round 75 with a 77 Saturday and is tied for 16th at 8-over. He opened his day with a bogey on No. 10 and was 2-over heading to No. 15 when he turned in his first eagle of the season with a three on the par-5 to get back to even. Unfortunately, the Woking, England, native was five shots over his final 11 holes, though he did pick up a birdie on No. 5.

Flanagan is eight shots back of individual co-leaders Mac McClear of Iowa and Adrien Dumont de Chassart of Illinois, both of whom are at even-par.

Sophomore Connor Glynn is tied for 26th and is +10 after a second consecutive round of 77. After bogeying the opening hole, he got back to even with a birdie on No. 15 and then moved into the red with a second birdie on No. 18. Making the turn at 1-under, Glynn was 6-over on his second nine to drop seven spots on the leaderboard.

After an 80 in his first round, freshman Ben Warian bounced back with a 5-over 77 Saturday. He was even through his first nine as a bogey on No. 12 was cancelled out by a birdie on No. 15. However, he was 5-over on the second nine and is now tied for 42nd at +13 for the tournament.

Senior Thomas Longbella had the Gophers' best round of the day with a 3-over 75, eight shots better than his first round total. He birdied No. 11 before back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13. Two holes later though he had his second birdie to get back to even. That was followed by a double bogey on No. 16. Two shots over par though seven holes, he was just 1-over in his final 11 holes, tallying 10 pars and one bogey the rest of the way. He's one shot back of Warian in a tie for 49th at 14-over.

Junior Lincoln Johnson tied Longbella and Glynn for the team lead with two birdies on the day, but he shot an 8-over 80 to fall into a tie for 60th. A birdie on the opening 10th was quickly followed by a birdie on No. 11. He had another bogey on No. 14 and again bounced back with a second birdie on No. 15. However, Johnson bogeyed the next hole and then was 7-over on his second nine to fall to +18 for the tournament.

Minnesota concludes play at the 2021 Big Ten Men's Golf Championship Sunday morning. Alternate Harrison Arnold will replace Johnson in the lineup and tee off first at 7 a.m. CT on No. 10. Longbella, Warian, Glynn and Flanagan will follow in nine-minute increments.
