The defenseman is coming off his best season with the Rangers.

MINNEAPOLIS – Former Gopher Hockey captain Ryan Lindgren has agreed to a three-year extension with the New York Rangers, the organization announced on Monday.

In his third overall NHL campaign and second full season with the Rangers, the defenseman skated in 51 games before suffering an upper-body injury at the end of April. The defenseman recorded career highs for points (16), assists (15), plus/minus (plus-20) and hits (98) and was voted by his teammates for the Players' Player Award – given annually to the Ranger who "best exemplifies what it means to be a team player."

Lindgren has skated in 116 regular-season NHL games with 30 points (two goals, 28 assists) while also adding three Stanley Cup playoff game appearances with one assist. He was originally selected by the Boston Bruins in the second round (49th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and was acquired by the Rangers on Feb. 25, 2018.

Lindgren spent two years with the Maroon & Gold, lettering in 2017 and 2018 and earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten accolades in both seasons. He was a Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection as a rookie in 2017 while helping Minnesota set an NCAA record with its sixth-straight regular-season conference title and served as an alternate captain in his final year with the program. In 67 career games with the Gophers, the defenseman notched 16 points (three goals, 13 assists).
