Gophers Announce 2021-22 Schedule

The Golden Gopher women's hockey team opens the 2021-22 season against Ohio State on Oct. 1.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Head coach Brad Frost and the Golden Gopher women's hockey program have announced the team's schedule for the 2021-22 campaign. The historic 25th season of Gopher women's hockey includes a 34-game regular-season campaign before the Maroon & Gold continue the program's quest for itsĀ eighth national title.

Under the direction of Frost, who returns for his 15th season at the helm of the program, the Gophers kick off the season Oct. 1-2, hosting Ohio State at Ridder Arena. Conference action continues with a road series at UMD (Oct. 8-9) and a home series with Minnesota State (Oct. 15-16) before Minnesota opens non-conference play by traveling to Colgate (Oct. 22-23).

Along with the Colgate series, Minnesota's non-conference slate also includes a home series with RIT (Nov. 12-13) and a Thanksgiving trip to Nashville, Tenn., for the Smashville NCAA Women's Hockey Showcase with Mercyhurst, Boston College, and Colgate. The Gophers face Mercyhurst (Nov. 26) with Boston College and Colgate also facing off on day one of the tournament, and action concludes with the championship and third-place games the following day (Nov. 27).

WCHA play in the first half of the regular season also includes a road trip to Bemidji State (Oct. 29-30) and the first of two home-and-home series with St. Cloud State (Nov. 19-20). Minnesota wraps up play in 2021 by traveling to Wisconsin (Dec. 3-4) and hosting UMD (Dec. 10-11).

Minnesota opens the second half of the season by facing new WCHA foe St. Thomas on the road (Jan. 7-8). Second-half WCHA play also includes road series at Minnesota State (Jan. 14-15) and Ohio State (Jan. 28-29) along with a second home-and-home series with St. Cloud State (Feb. 11-12). The Gophers host Wisconsin (Jan. 21-22), Bemidji State (Feb. 4-5), and welcome the Tommies to Ridder Arena for the first time to close out the regular season (Feb. 18-19).

The postseason begins with the 2022 WCHA Postseason Tournament. All eight league teams will be seeded by finish in the WCHA standings with the top four seeds each hosting the bottom four seeds in four, best-of-three quarterfinal series (Feb. 25-27). The four quarterfinal winners will move on to meet in college hockey's top conference championship event, the WCHA Final Faceoff, March 5-6 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.

NCAA quarterfinal round action is set for Saturday, March 12, and the 2022 NCAA Women's Frozen Four will be hosted by Penn State atĀ Pegula Ice Arena inĀ State College, Pa., Friday, March 18 and Sunday, March 20.

Gopher women's hockey season tickets are on sale now, starting at only $79, and season ticket packages are available for purchase online. Current season ticket holders may renew their tickets by signing into their season ticket account as well. The Women's League of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association will mark its 23rdĀ season in 2021-22. The nation's premier women's hockey conference, WCHA member institutions have won a record 18 national championships since the league's inception in 1999 (including 17 of a possible 20 NCAA titles), while producing seven Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winners, 110 All-Americans and numerous Olympic and national team members. The eight-team, NCAA Division I conference consists of: Bemidji State University (Beavers), the University of Minnesota (Golden Gophers), the University of Minnesota Duluth (Bulldogs), Minnesota State University (Mavericks), The Ohio State University (Buckeyes), St. Cloud State University (Huskies), the University of Wisconsin (Badgers) and 2021-22 league newcomer University of St. Thomas (Tommies).
