‘U’ Sends Four to World Junior Summer Showcase

Brock Faber, Tristan Broz, Chaz Lucius and Matthew Knies will represent the 'U' at the event.
MINNEAPOLIS – USA Hockey has invited four players with ties to the Gopher men's hockey program to the 2021 World Junior Summer Showcase next month at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.
'U' sophomore defenseman Brock Faber is one of six invitees returning after helping the U.S. National Junior Team earn a gold medal at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship while incoming freshmen forwards Tristan Broz, Matthew Knies and Chaz Lucius also earned invitations.
The Gophers foursome is among 44 players invited to The Showcase – set for July 24-31 – in hopes of making the U.S. National Junior Team for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship (set for Dec. 26, 2021-Jan. 5, 2022 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta). The U.S. roster will be split into two teams for the event along with Finland and Sweden for 11 games across eight days.
The United States will enter the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship having earned medals in five of the last six years, including most recently winning its fifth gold medal in 2021 in Edmonton, Alberta behind a blue line filled with the Gophers trio of Brock Faber, Ryan Johnson and Jackson LaCombe.
Gopher Hockey, which tied for the most representatives of any NCAA program on last year's U.S. squad, has a proud history at the IIHF World Junior Championship with the University of Minnesota being represented at 42 of the 45 events dating back to the inaugural tournament in 1977.
