The University of Minnesota men's and women's swimming and diving program announced their 2021-22 schedule Friday morning. This year's lineup includes five regular season home meets, a home-away series with rival Wisconsin, and the annual Minnesota Invitational in early December.
"We're beyond excited for the upcoming 2021-22 season," said head coach Kelly Kremer. "We've got another year of tough regular season opponents that we missed greatly last season and should keep us well prepared for championship season in February and March. Plus, it's always great hosting the Minnesota Invitational. It's always an incredibly fast meet, and it should be a lot of fun once again."
The women will kick off the 2021-22 season with an away dual versus the Iowa Hawkeyes on Oct. 8 in Iowa City, Iowa. Conversely, the men will begin their 2021-22 campaign the following weekend on Oct. 15 in West Lafayette, Ind. against the Purdue Boilermakers.
Three straight home duals lay in store for the Gophers following their pair of opening meets, all of which will be held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. First up will be a women's only dual versus Nebraska on Oct. 29, the final time the two sides of the program will compete separately before championship season begins in mid-February.
The programs will then take on the Tommies of the University of St. Thomas on Oct. 30 before playing host to the Wisconsin Badgers the following weekend on Nov. 5.
December will once again feature only one meet for the Gophers, being the Minnesota Invitational from Dec. 1-4. As always, the Invitational should provide some of the best races in the nation through this juncture of the 2021-22 season, while featuring multiple, high-caliber teams which have yet to be announced.
The latter half of the Gophers' 2021-22 campaign begins early in January, which will feature the Gophers' final three regular season meets. The first will denote their final non-conference dual when they travel to the University of California San Diego to take on the Tritons on Jan. 9. They will then travel to Madison, Wis. to take on the Badgers for the back-half of their home-away series on Jan. 15, before ultimately wrapping up their regular season by hosting a tri-dual against both Purdue and Northwestern from Jan. 28-29.
The championship season will kick off with Minnesota's own First Chance Meet from Feb. 4-5, where NCAA hopefuls will have an additional chance to notch NCAA Championship cut times prior to the Championships themselves in mid-late March.
The women will be the first to take on the Big Ten Conference Championships when they head back to Madison, Wis. from Feb 16-19, followed by the men from Feb. 23-26 in West Lafayette, Ind.
The divers will then head off for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships prior to the NCAA Championships, at a date and location which has yet to be announced.
Finally, the Gophers will wrap up the 2021-22 season at the 2022 NCAA Championships. Both the women's and men's NCAA Championship meets will be held in Atlanta, Ga, with the women's taking place from March 16-19 and the men's from March 23-26.
