Five tournaments highlight the Minnesota men's golf team's 2021 fall schedule, head coach Justin Smith announced Thursday.
"At Minnesota, we pride ourselves on competing against the strongest fields in the country on some of the greatest championship venues in golf," Smith said. "This fall, we look forward to growing as a team by competing at the highest level in these elite events. We are extremely excited for our fall schedule that will clearly prepare us for a championship run in the spring."
The fall season begins Sept. 5-7 with the Marquette Intercollegiate at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis. The 9th ranked public course in the United States, Erin Hills hosted the U.S. Amateur in 2011, the 2017 U.S. Open Championship and will host the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship in 2022 and the U.S. Women's Open in 2025.
Minnesota returns home the following week to host the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club (Sept. 12-13) in Independence, Minn. Windsong Farm is consistently rated among Minnesota's top golf courses and also nationally recognized as one of the top modern courses in the nation. Windsong's breathtaking views and unmatched course conditions contribute to the ultimate golfing experience.
As the calendar turns to October, the Gophers head to Sugar Grove, Ill. for the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate (Oct. 2-4). Since its opening, Rich Harvest Farms has become a premier destination for golfers from all over the world, attracting a series of prestigious amateur and professional tournaments, including the 2009 Solheim Cup, 2015 Palmer Cup and 2017 NCAA National Golf Championships.
The Maroon and Gold will then travel to the Kampen Golf Course to compete in the Purdue Fall Invitational (Oct. 11-12) in West Lafayette, Ind. Kampen is rated one of the top collegiate courses in the nation and has been awarded 4.5 stars on Golf Digest's "Places to Play." The course played host to a number of prestigious collegiate and public tournaments such as the 2003 Women's NCAA Championship, the 2004 Indiana Open, the 2005 Women's Western Amateur and the 2008 Men's NCAA Championship.
Minnesota closes out the fall season at the Isleworth Collegiate (Oct. 17-19) at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Fla. Recognized as the premier collegiate golf tournament in the country, the Isleworth Collegiate features 15 of the nation's top college golf programs and is played on one of the most prestigious courses and communities in the world.
The Gophers will return seven golfers from last year's squad and welcome newcomers Eduardo Galdos, Antoine Sale and Bennett Swavely for the 2021-22 season.
