Gophers Roar Back for 4-2 Win at Ohio State

"Not the best start, but I'm proud of how we responded," head coach Erin Chastain said. "I think sometimes as competitors you get into a road game and it is Ohio State and they have had a great year so far and maybe some of tonight was nerves being on the road with a younger group. All we can do is learn from those moments and I think that will help us moving forward with Michigan State."
For the first time since 2012 the #Gophers won a match after falling behind 2-0 with the last time coming against Wisconsin in Minneapolis in a 3-2 win. The win for Chastain is her first Big Ten win of her coaching career.Â
Ohio State's goals came in the 17th and 21st minute of the first half to take the 2-0 lead with Kailyn Dudukovich scoring her fourth and fifth goals of the season for the Buckeyes.Â
Minnesota responded just three and a half minutes later when Brown found the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1 halfway through the first half. Brown slipped behind the back line after Megan Gray slipped a through ball and finished on the near-side post. Assists went to Gray along with Lauren Donovan.Â

The equalizer came in the 43rd minute in the form of sophomore Sadie Harper. Sophomore forward Maddie Baker flicked a ball into the box that Harper sprung towards and finished on the same near-side post Brown finished on earlier to make it 2-2.Â
After the break of halftime the Gophers got right back to where they left off in the first half. Boman, off a set-piece feed from Stekr, got behind the Buckeye back line and finished with a first-time touch easily with her right foot in the 64th minute.Â
Insurance came from Stekr just six minutes later when Stekr found herself on the end of a corner kick opportunity. Baker headed down the corner before Stekr finished with her left foot and put distance between the Gophers and Buckeyes with 20 minutes to go in the match.Â

Statistically the two teams both finished with 12 shots in the match with half of Minnesota's shots being on frame. Plaschko made a match-high six saves in the victory. Minnesota scored four goals in a Big Ten match for the first time since 2017 when the team defeated Illinois 4-0, also on the road.Â
The Maroon and Gold take on Michigan State on Sunday to wrap up their longest Big Ten road trip of the season. The match is scheduled for a 11 a.m. kickoff on BTN+.Â
