Meyers Nominated for the Hobey Baker Award

Meyers leads the Gophers in scoring through 20 games this season.
MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher men's hockey junior captain Ben Meyers has been nominated for this year's Hobey Baker Award as fan voting for college hockey's top player officially opened today.
The first round of fan voting runs through Sunday, March 6, and fans can vote here.
A native of Delano, Minn., Meyers currently leads the Maroon & Gold with 23 points (nine goal, 14 assists) in 20 games this year as Minnesota finds itself in first place in the Big Ten Conference. The Preseason All-Big Ten First Team selection was elevated to serve as a team captain this year after acting as an alternate captain for the Gophers in 2020-21 as a sophomore. Meyers also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors last year in his first season of eligibility.
Hobey Baker Award criteria include candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award's namesake, Hobey Baker. A legendary American hero, Baker was a World War I fighter pilot and was known as America's greatest amateur athlete in his day, excelling at hockey and football at Princeton University. Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
The 2022 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced from a field of three Hobey Hat Trick finalists on Friday, April 8, 2022 during the NCAA Frozen Four Championship in Boston, Mass.
