MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota sophomore Shelby Frank has been honored by the Big Ten Conference for her performance at the Minnesota Open.
Frank was the runner-up at the Minnesota Open with a lifetime best toss of 20.03m (65-8 3/4). With her throw, Frank moved into eighth in Minnesota history. The Grand Forks, N.D., native improved on her previous PR by nearly two full meters, surpassing the mark of 18.77m (61-7) she set at the Big Ten Indoor Championships back in February.
Amongst the rest of the country, Frank is ranked sixth in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten this season. Her mark was the longest toss in the country this past weekend.
The award marks Frank's first career Big Ten Athlete of the Week award. She is the first Gopher to earn B1G weekly honors this season and is the first since Tess Keyzers on May 12, 2021 during the outdoor season.
The Gophers will continue their indoor campaign on the weekend of Jan. 14-15. The Gophers will have a group head to the St. Thomas Open along with a trip to the first Wisconsin Midwest Invitational in Chicago at the new Track and Field Center at Gately Park, a 139,000-square foot facility with a 200m banked track.
