Gophers Fall to Iowa at Home

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota (9-10, 2-5 B1G) fell to Iowa (11-4, 5-1 B1G) 105-49 on Thursday night at Williams Arena. Sara Scalia finished with a team-high 15 points, her ninth-straight game scoring in double figures.
Iowa got off to a hot start, and held a double-digit lead for much of the game. The Hawkeyes shot 40-of-68 (58.6 percent) from the floor to earn the road win.
Caitlyn Clark got off to a hot start for Iowa, scoring and assisting on their first six points, as Iowa forced an early Minnesota timeout with 6:16 left to play in the first, down 10-2. Kadi Sissoko scored the first six for the Gophers, and Alexia Smith capped off the first quarter with five of her own, including a three-point field goal to beat the buzzer. The Gophers went on a 7-0 run to end the first quarter and ended the first quarter down 20-13.
Iowa opened up the second quarter on a 13-6 run, which included back-to-back three's from Clark and Gabbie Marshall. Deja Winters had a quarter-high seven points for Minnesota, as they entered halftime with a 34-47 deficit.
In the second half it was Scalia who scored 11 points for the Golden Gophers. Iowa used a big third quarter, scoring 37 points, to take a firm control and left the Barn with the 105-49 win.
Minnesota turns around for a matchup this Sunday, Jan. 23, on the road against Michigan State (9-8, 3-3 B1G) in East Lansing. The game is set for 1pm, and will be aired on B1G+. Fans can listen to Tanner Hoops and Lynnette Sjoquist on KFAN+.
