MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gophers track and field team will have student-athletes at the 2022 Cyclone Open on Jan. 22, in Ames, Iowa. Saturday's action at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center will include teams such as Missouri, Iowa State, Drake and more.

About the 2022 Cyclone Open
After missing out on action in Ames for the first time in over 15 years last season, the Gophers return to Iowa State for the 2022 Cyclone Open with this year's competition including three Power 5 programs. Field events will begin at 12 p.m. with the women's weight throw while the action on the track will begin at 1 p.m. with the women's 1000m. Live results will be available through Wayzata Results and Gopher fans can follow the live action on @GopherCCTF on Twitter and Instagram. Admission for the meet is free for all ages. The Golden Gophers have 77 entries in the event with a number of event debuts coming this weekend. A full performance list of the meet can be found here.

Last Time Out: Wisconsin Midwest Invitational
The Golden Gophers earned three event victories at the first Wisconsin Big Ten Midwest Invitational in Chicago, Ill. Hannah Morris (long jump), Amira Young (60m) and the women's 4x400m relay team brought home wins. The event, the first at the Gately Park facility, saw Minnesota's Minnesota's Hannah Morris eclipse six meters in her season debut in the Maroon and Gold to win the event with a mark of 6.02m (19-9), nearly matching her lifetime best of 6.08m. On the track the Golden Gophers saw Big Ten champion Amira Young showcase her incredible talent on the straightaway. The Chicago native nearly matched her lifetime best by clocking a 7.32 in the final, less than a tenth away from 7.26 back in 2021. Finishing third in the event was sophomore Akilah Lewis who posted a new lifetime best of 7.36 to move into the third slot on the program's top 10 indoor list. Picking up the final win of the day was the 4x400m relay team of Jayla CampbellVal LarsonAbigail Schaaffee and Janielle Josephs. The quartet posted a facility record of 3:40.77, the 17th-best time in the nation so far this season. Other notable personal records included Shelby Frank (Weight Throw, 20.66m) and McKenzie Duwenhoegger (Shot Put, 15.69m).

Frank Named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week
University of Minnesota sophomore Shelby Frank was honored by the Big Ten Conference for her performance at the Minnesota Open on Jan. 12. Frank was the runner-up at the Minnesota Open with a lifetime best toss of 20.03m (65-8 3/4). Since then Frank has moved up to No. 6 on the Gophers all-time indoor list. Amongst the rest of the country, Frank is ranked 15th in the nation and No. 6 in the Big Ten this season.

The Golden Gophers Ranked Nationally
Although it is early in the indoor season, the Golden Gophers have already made a mark on the national indoor lists. Currently 15 Minnesota marks are ranked inside the nation's top 25, with 14 different student-athletes posting them. As of Jan. 21, Allison Gerads' third-ranked pentathlon score of 4,037 points is the highest ranked individual mark at No. 3 in the NCAA. Other top 10 national marks for the Gophers currently include Abby Kohut-Jackson (3000m, 9:10.04) and Janielle Josephs (400m, 54.13).

Last Time in Ames
The last time the Maroon and Gold took their talents to Ames, Iowa was back in Feb. 2020. The Gophers earned one victory at the meet that included teams like Kansas, Kansas State, South Dakota, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska and more. Bethany Hasz returned with the 3000m victory in a time of 9:13.46. Since then the Gopher has dropped an 8:59.37 indoors in that event, which is the indoor program record. Abby Kohut-Jackson posted her indoor mile personal record at the same event back in 2020. Her time of 4:41.85 still stands as the No. 8 indoor time in program history.
