STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team is back on the road Sunday for the first time since Jan. 12 when it travels to No. 11 Wisconsin. The Golden Gophers are 98-99 all-time against the Badgers, including a 34-61 mark at Wisconsin. The two teams battled just once last season, also in Madison, Wis., where the Badgers won, 71-59.
• Minnesota went through the first 14 games with the same starting five. Since the last road trip (Michigan State, Jan. 12), Minnesota has experienced a couple different lineups due to COVID-19 protocols, injuries and illness. In fact, Minnesota had to postpone the Penn State (Jan. 19) game due to falling under the Big Ten rule of seven available scholarship athletes to compete. Eric Curry has missed the past two weeks with an injury, while the Gophers were without starters Jamison Battle and Eylijah Stephens during the Rutgers game. After missing one game, Battle and Stephens returned to the lineup for OSU.
• A veteran group, the Gophers turn over the ball very few times, 159, which ranks first in the league and second nationally. The Gophers have had six games in which they committed five or fewer turnovers a game. Of the six games, four have come against Big Ten opponents in Michigan State, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio State.
Payton Willis was named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week after his outstanding performance against Rutgers. His 32 points marked a new career high for the senior. Willis hit eight three-pointers in the game, which was a new career best and tied a program record. He finished the game 11-of-17, 8-of-13 from three (4-4 in the second half), had three rebounds, seven assists and a steal.
• Minnesota had one of its best shooting displays in the Rutgers win as the Gophers made 26-of-48 (.542) field goals, including a season-best 13-of-24 (.542) from three. It marked the sixth time the Gophers have shot 50 percent or better this season and second time from long-range. The Gophers had 13 threes and shot 54.2 percent, both season-highs. Last season, Minnesota failed to shoot 50 percent in any of its 29 games. Saturday's 54.2 percent overall and from three-point range were both season-bests in Big Ten play. The Gophers have shot better than 50 percent three times in conference games this season, including the past two.

UP NEXT
• Minnesota will face its third-straight ranked team in a row when the No. 6 Purdue Boilermakers come to town, Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network, while Mike Grimm and Spencer Tollackson provide the radio call on KTLK (AM-1130), FM 103.5.
