Six different Gophers scored for the second-straight game in an 8-2 victory over the Tommies.

Mendota Heights, Minn. -- The No. 5 Golden Gopher women's hockey team completed its first sweep over WCHA-newcomers St. Thomas with an 8-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at St. Thomas Ice Arena.

Minnesota's (16-5-1) got on the board first for the 15th straight game and 20th time this season after Abigail Boreen found the back of the net just over six minutes into the contest. Boreen notched a second goal a few minutes later to send Minnesota into the break up 2-0. St. Thomas (4-15-1) responded with a short-handed goal thanks to a wacky bounce off of the end boards early in the second period. It was the first short-handed goal conceded by the Gophers since Nov. 29, 2019. The 'U' responded in a big way with four goals in a span of 4:40 to carry a 6-1 lead into the second intermission. Peyton Hemp, Amy Potomak, Taylor Heise, and Emily Zumwinkle all lit the lamp in the middle frame. Abigail Boreen completed her first career hat-trick in the third period to give her five goals on the weekend.

Lauren Bench secured her sixth victory of the season and 15th with Minnesota after stopping 11 of 13 shots faced.

Quotable
"A great weekend with another WCHA sweep," said head coach Brad Frost. "Any time you can put those points in the bank, we want to do it. Some really good things from a lot of players this weekend. Abby Boreen had a really special weekend with a hat-trick today. We possessed the puck a lot, applied a lot of pressure, and did a lot of really good things."

Notable
Abigail Boreen recorded her first career hat-trick and a career-high five goals in a single series. Madeline Wethington recorded a career-high five points in a single series following her two assist performance on Sunday. Olivia King recorded her first shift as a skater at the end of the third period. The Gophers tallied three power-play goals for the first time since Oct. 15 against Minnesota State.

Up Next
The Gophers are scheduled to take on Minnesota State in a home-and-home series next weekend. Friday's contest will take place in Mankato, while Saturday's is set to take place at Ridder Arena.
