Four-goal weekend for the freshman

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Behind a four-goal weekend against a top-five opponent, Minnesota's Jimmy Snuggerud was named the Big Ten Men's Hockey First Star of the Week Tuesday.

The freshman was dominant for the No. 2-ranked Golden Gophers scoring the first four goals of his college career during the home-and-home split. He burst onto the scene Friday tallying the Maroon and Gold's first hat trick since February, including the game winner over No. 5 Minnesota State.

For the second night in a row, he buried the first goal of the night, this time on the road Saturday, finishing with four goals in two games on just eight shots. The Chaska, Minn., native is currently tied for the NCAA lead in total goals scored and is the only player in the country with a hat trick this season.

The Gophers now are the first team in league history to have a pair of freshmen teammates earn the first star honor in consecutive weeks to open the season as Snuggerud joins linemate Logan Cooley to pick up the award in 2022-23.

Next Up: Home vs. North Dakota (Oct. 21-22)
After a bye this weekend, Minnesota is back in action hosting rival North Dakota for a two-game series at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
