'U' Boasts 18 former Gophers on NHL Opening Rosters

MINNEAPOLIS - The puck has officially dropped on the 2022-23 National Hockey League season and the Golden Gophers men's hockey team has 18 former players on a roster for opening day.

After sending 30 players into NHL training camps, 18 made the final roster, including two on each of the Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets. The list also includes older brothers of current Minnesota athletes as Rem Pitlick, brother of Rhett, is in Montreal, while Casey Mittelstadt, brother of John and Luke, continues his professional career in Buffalo.

The Maroon and Gold had 25 former players get in the action during an NHL game last season, tied for the most of any collegiate program in the nation.
