Gophers and Buckeyes Settle for Tie
10/29/2022 6:12:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Ohio State secured the extra conference point in the shootout.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Gopher Women's hockey team and No. 1 Ohio State each settled for their first tie of the season after a 4-4 stalemate at OSU Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Minnesota (7-0-1) continued its trend of scoring first with two early goals from Abbey Murphy and Josefin Bouveng less than four minutes in. Ohio State (8-1-1) got one back before the end of the opening-period after former-Badger Makenna Webster pounced on a loose puck. For the second straight game, Minnesota got on the board early in the third after Murphy finished off a breakaway for her second of the game and eighth of the year. Ohio State responded with two goals in the third to tie the game with 7:13 remaining in regulation.
Both teams traded a pair of goals on the same power-play as Taylor Heise converted a shorthanded opportunity before Ohio State responded 33 seconds later. Both teams had multiple chances in overtime, but neither could secure the victory, ending Saturday's contest in a tie. Ohio State earned the extra point in the shootout.
Skylar Vetter started in goal for Minnesota making 27 saves in the draw. Senior Raygan Kirk started in goal for the Buckeyes, also stopping 27 shots in the draw.

"Well kind of a crazy game here tonight," said head coach Brad Frost. "Plenty of momentum swings both ways. Four penalties in the third did us in tonight, but I'm proud of our team's resolve. We're proud of our players for getting four of six points against a very good Ohio State team."

• Abbey Murphy tallied two goals to move to eight on the year – most on the team.
• Skylar Vetter made a career-high 70 saves in this weekend's series.
