A 5-0 run, however, sparked by a kill from Taylor Landfair and a block from Naya Gros and Mckenna Wucherer, put the 'U' up 11-5 and led to a Michigan timeout. Four more consecutive points by Minnesota after the break capped off a 9-0 run. Landfair and Melani Shaffmaster had kills to put the visitors up 15-5 in the set. Michigan would call its second timeout trailing 17-6 after Mckenna Wucherer tallied her first kill of the match. The Gophers would go up by as many as 14 at 23-9. Minnesota would eventually close it out, 25-12. Landfair led the team with four kills on the set as the 'U' hit a scorching .500 through the first frame.
Set 2: Set two was much more competitive than the first. Michigan took an early 4-2 lead but neither team led by more than a point after that until after the media timeout. A service ace by Landfair put the Gophers up 15-14 heading into the timeout halfway between the set. A kill from Wucherer and a block from Naya Gros and Shaffmaster put Minnesota up a set-high three points at 17-14. The Gophers would go up as much as five at 21-16 after kills from Shaffmaster and Lanfair and an ace from CC McGraw. Michigan would cut the deficit to two at 22-20 and 24-22, but would get no closer. Another kill from Landfair gave the Gophers a 2-0 advantage and a 25-22 set two win.
Set 3: The Gophers led 6-3 early before a pair of Wolverines points made it 6-5 early in the set.
