The Gophers hit .341 in set one, getting seven kills and four digs from Wenaas, four kills from Booth and Landfair and eight digs from CC McGraw.

Booth and Lauren Crowl had a block while Landfair had a pair of kills in the spurt. Minnesota would go up six at 11-5 after an ace from McGraw and a block from Crowl and Arica Davis. The Terps would fight back, however, going on a 4-0 run with a pair of kills and an ace to cut the lead to 11-9. The 'U' refused to allow the score to get any closer, scoring six of the next eight to go up 17-11.
