The No. 3 Gophers clawed back but could not equalize in a 4-3 loss to No. 5 Yale.

HENDERSON, Nev. – The No. 3 Golden Gopher women's hockey team fell to 1-2-0 in non-conference play this season after a 4-3 loss to No. 5 Yale on Saturday evening at The Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev.

Yale (8-0-0) opened the scoring 1:38 into the contest – the fourth time in the last five contests that Minnesota (10-3-2) has been scored on first. The Gophers responded with two quick goals from Peyton Hemp and Ella Huber to give the Maroon and Gold its only lead of the game. The Bulldogs tallied three unanswered goals to close out the period with a 4-2 advantage. Huber notched her second goal of the game just over four minutes into the second period, but Minnesota could not find the equalizer over the last 35 minutes.

Sophomore Skylar Vetter was relieved after allowing four goals in the first period. Senior Makayla Pahl stopped all eight shots in relief. Yale's Pia Dukaric made 29 saves in the win.

Quotable
"A tough result tonight," said head coach Brad Frost. "We tied it up 2-2 in the first and they pulled ahead with two quick ones in the last minute of the first period. I thought we played really well in the second and third period. We limited Yale to eight shots through the last two periods. In the end we just couldn't find the equalizer."

Notable
•    Ella Huber recorded her second career two-goal game.
•    Minnesota was defeated by Yale for the first time in program history. The Gophers are now 9-1-0 all time against the Bulldogs.
•    Sadie Lindsay recorded her first point of the season with an assist.
