Gophers Open December with 4-1 Victory
12/2/2022 9:51:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Minnesota moves to 11-3-2 on the season and 7-0-0 at home.
MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 5 Golden Gopher women's hockey team scored four unanswered goals to skate to a 4-1 victory over Minnesota State at Ridder Arena on Friday evening.Â
Â
Minnesota State (7-8-0) kicked off the scoring with the lone first period goal after a crazy bounce off of the boards with 6:38 left in the opening period. Minnesota (11-3-2) responded with three goals in the second to take a lead it would not relinquish. Abigail Boreen notched two second period goals, including her 100th career point, for her second multi-goal game of the season. Â Audrey Wethington scored her second goal of the season to add some insurance in the third period.
Skylar Vetter stopped 24 shots in her 10th win of the year. Minnesota State's Alexa Berg made 37 saves in the defeat.Â
QuotableÂ
"A really solid 60 minutes of hockey back at home," said head coach Brad Frost. "We continued to build as the game went on. We were down after one, but three goals in the second and one in the third was obviously big. It was great having Abigail Boreen back in the lineup after missing last weekend. She made a big impact with a couple of goals and her 100th point as a Gopher. A really good overall effort from the group."
Notable
•   Abigail Boreen is the third active Gopher to reach the 100 point mark.Â
•   Minnesota moves to 7-0-0 on home ice.
•   Grace Zumwinkle recorded her third career game with three assists.
