The Gophers suffer their first loss of the season in the 2022 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Faceoff Classic.
ANDOVER, Minn. – The No. 1 Golden Gopher women's hockey team fell to St. Cloud State by a 4-1 final in the 2022 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum at Andover Community Center on Monday night. Tonight's game counts as a non-conference game.
RV St. Cloud State (7-6-0) jumped all over Minnesota (9-1-1) with two first period goals to leave the Gophers trailing after one period for the first time this season. The Huskies tallied a third goal 23 seconds into the second period before Taylor Heise got the Maroon and Gold on the board with her sixth goal of the season on the power play. SCSU added another just under halfway through the third.
Sophomore Skylar Vetter made 15 saves in her first defeat this season. St. Cloud State's Sanni Ahola stopped 34 shots in the victory.
Quotable
"Not the result we wanted here tonight," said head coach Brad Frost. "Credit to St. Cloud State, they're a really good team. They played a really structured game and did a great job. It was awesome to bring division I women's hockey here to Andover. It was great to see so many young girls and their families in the stands. Overall, it was a great night for the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame and being able to raise some money."
Notable
• Minnesota failed to score first for the second time this season – both against St. Cloud State.
• Minnesota falls to St. Cloud for the first time since 2010.
• Freshman Allie Franco made her collegiate debut.
