• Minnesota is 9-0 all time against members of the SWAC. The Gophers' last game against a SWAC team dates back to 2017 when the Gophers defeated Alabama A&M, 100-57 at Williams Arena. The Gophers were scheduled to play Alcorn State in 2021, however the game was canceled due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
• The Arkansas-Pine Bluff game marks the fourth opponent this year Minnesota is facing for the first time in school history. The previous three games came against Western Michigan in the home opener (W, 61-60), St. Francis Brooklyn (W, 72-54) and California Baptist (W, 62-61 OT).
• Minnesota is coming off a 69-51 loss to No. 23 Mississippi State, Sunday at Williams Arena. Dawson Garcia tied a game-best 20 points, was 7-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three point-range. Joshua Ola-Joseph had nine points, while Ta'Lon Cooper had six points and four assists. Pharrel Payne had six points and seven rebounds, while Braeden Carrington grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds and added five points for the Gophers.
• Minnesota is coming off a stretch facing some tough competition this past month. The Gophers faced four-straight Power 5 opponents and also four in the top 50 NET rankings, provided by the NCAA. Purdue is currently ranked No. 3 in NET rankings, followed by Mississippi State at No. 6, Virginia Tech at No. 27 and UNLV at No. 35. Purdue, Mississippi State and UNLV all remain undefeated teams, while the Hokies hold a 10-1 record.
