STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team returns to Williams Arena Wednesday night to host the No. 4 Purdue Boilermakers at 6 p.m. It marks Minnesota's third ranked opponent in a row with No. 16 Ohio State, No. 11 Wisconsin and now No. 4 Purdue. Minnesota is 81-97 all time against Purdue, dating back to 1904 (record excludes vacated games). Minnesota won the last time these two teams battled in a 71-68 win, Feb. 11, 2021, also at the Barn.
• Minnesota's Ben Johnson and Purdue's Matt Painter are two of four head coaches now at the helm of their alma maters. Both team captains in their own collegiate careers, Johnson's first head coaching job came at his alma mater. Painter began his head coaching career at Southern Illinois for one season where he went 25-5. The two other Big Ten coaches at their alma maters is Mike Woodson (Indiana) and Juwan Howard (Michigan).
Eric Curry returned to the lineup, marking the first time back to the court after a three-game hiatus. Curry suffered an ankle injury during the Michigan State game (Jan. 12) and sat out the Iowa, Rutgers and Ohio State games. Against Wisconsin, Curry played nearly 35 minutes, went 4-of-7 from the field and had six rebounds.
Payton Willis led all scorers in Sunday's game against Wisconsin with 17 points. Over the course of the season, Willis has led the Gophers in scoring six times, including three with over 20 points during a game (Princeton, Mississippi State and Rutgers). Willis has been named a two-time Big Ten Player of the Week this season.
Jamison Battle is ranked sixth in Big Ten overall scoring and eighth against Big Ten opponents (16.9). He averages 17.6 points per game, while Payton Willis ranks 10th in the league at 16.3. Willis also holds the league's best three-point shooter at 41.8 percent. Battle added 14 points against Wisconsin, which marked his 33rd straight double-figure scoring game dating back to last season at George Washington. Battle's season high is 27 points (at Michigan), while his career high is 29 (vs. Duquesne). He has scored 20 points or more points in six games this season.

VACCINE MANDATES BEGIN
• The University of Minnesota announced Jan. 14 that it requires attendees at indoor events with 200 or more spectators to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative, third-party COVID-19 test within 72 hours of the event.
• The temporary policy, which reflects the University's vaccination announcement made earlier, started on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, and ends on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022. This policy may be extended, and Athletics will work with campus leadership to determine if an extension is needed.
• Any extension of this policy will be announced prior to Feb. 9. The COVID-19 vaccine requirement applies to all attendees age five and older. Minnesota's indoor mask / face covering mandate also remains in effect for all home athletic indoor events.

UP NEXT
• Minnesota is back on the road Sunday when it travels to Iowa at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network, while Mike Grimm and Spencer Tollackson provide the radio call on  KFAN 100.3 FM.
