Gophers Defeat Nebraska in Final Round of Big Ten Match Play

The University of Minnesota women's golf team claimed victory over Nebraska in the final round of the Big Ten Match Play at the par-72 Innisbrook Island Golf Course in Florida.
"We had a really exciting match against Nebraska today, and I'm so proud of the way we kept our composure under pressure and pulled off the win," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "This was ideal preparation heading into our next event at UCF with a very quick turnaround."
The seventh-ranked Gophers defeated fourth-seeded Nebraska by a final match score of 4-2-0. After splitting the first day by falling to Ohio State and recording a win over Penn State, Minnesota finished the tournament 2-1-0 in fifth place.

Junior Emma Carpenter notched an individual victory over Nebraska, downing Michaela Vavrova of Nebraska, 2UP. This was Carpenter's third match play victory of the event.
"I am very proud of our team this week," Carpenter said. "Competing against some of the best teams in the Big Ten was such a great start to the season. Match play is a different beast and we all did a very good job of staying patient and grinding out solid wins against both Penn State and Nebraska. I attribute my individual wins to good decision-making with the help of my coach. All of my teammates played really solid golf and stuck with it to the very end. It was loads of fun and I can't wait to keep this momentum going into UCF's event next week."
Grace Curran, Geraldine Wong and Joanne Free also recorded individual victories over their Cornhusker opponents.
