MINNEAPOLIS ā The Minnesota women's swimming and diving team posted a pair of NCAA 'B' cuts Wednesday on the opening night of the 2022 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Madison, Wis.
The evening started for the Golden Gophers with the 200 medley relay. Senior Emily Cook (24.35 back split), juniors Grace Bennin (26.91 breast) and Jordan McGinty (23.39 fly), and senior Olivia Bloomer (21.76 free) combined to touch the wall at 1:36.41.
That time was good for second place in the second of three heats, sixth place overall and just .01 off an NCAA automatic qualifying mark.
It was a similar story for Minnesota in the 800 free relay as it claimed second in the second heat with a time of 7:04.66, fast enough for sixth overall and a 'B' cut by over a second.
McGinty led off with a personal best split and 'B' cut of 1:46.13, and was followed by freshman Hannah Cornish (1:46.37), sophomore Megan Van Berkom (1:45.86) and junior Maggie Summit (1:46.30).
Minnesota returns to the pool Thursday for Day Two of 2022 Big Ten Championships. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free on the schedule. One-meter diving starts at noon, while the finals start at 5:30 with the aforementioned events plus the 400 medley relay.
