MINNEAPOLIS – Ben Meyers has been named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week after helping the No. 4 Gopher men's hockey program to its third-straight Big Ten sweep last weekend at Penn State.Â
In his first game back in the lineup since competing with the U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, Meyers tallied three assists as Minnesota rallied from a 3-0 hole to win 6-4 on Saturday night at Pegula Ice Arena. The forward matched his career high for assists and posted his seventh career three-point game while also winning 10-of-13 faceoffs in the series finale. The Hobey Baker Award candidate is now tied for the Maroon & Gold scoring lead with a career-high 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in 27 games this season.Â
Meyers missed the first five games of the team's active six-game winning streak to compete at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. Competing alongside teammates Matthew Knies and Brock Faber and Minnesota alum Aaron Ness, Meyers finished second on the U.S. squad with four points (two goals, two assists) as Team USA finished fifth.Â
