Gophers Hit the Road to Face Maryland

• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team closes out the Big Ten regular season with a two-game road swing at Maryland and at Northwestern, March 2 and March 6. The last time Minnesota has closed out the Big Ten regular season with back-to-back road games dates back to the 2012-13 season when Minnesota played at Nebraska and at Purdue, March 6 and March 9, 2013.
• Wednesday marks the first time the Golden Gophers and Maryland Terrapins face each other this year. Minnesota is 2-12 all time against the Terps, including a 2-8 record since Maryland joined the Big Ten. Minnesota's last win was also at Maryland when the Gophers earned an 89-75 win on Feb. 22, 2017. In that game, Minnesota outscored Maryland 55-40 in the second half en route to its three-straight road win. Minnesota had five players score double-digit points in that win, including Dupree McBrayer, who had 18 points.
• Payton Willis led the Gophers in loss to Indiana when he scored 28 points, including 19 in the second half. Willis went 8-for-17 and 7-for-14 from three. On the season, the senior is shooting a Big Ten best 42.9 percent from three-point range. He's made a team-best 67 threes in 156 attempts. As a team, Minnesota had a season-best 14 threes in the loss to Indiana, bettering its 13 against Rutgers earlier this year.
• Luke Loewe became the third Gopher this season to earn his 1,000th career point, as he set the milestone against Indiana Sunday. The fifth-year senior held 769 career points with William & Mary and now has 234 as a Golden Gopher for 1,003 points. Jamison Battle reached his 1,000th collegiate point with his first made field goal of the Penn State game (2/17). Battle earned over 1,000 career points spanning over two and a half collegiate seasons when he scored 636 points at George Washington before transferring to Minnesota. He currently has 429 with the Gophers, totaling 1,065 collegiate points. Payton Willis reached 1,000 career points against Green Bay earlier this year. Eylijah Stephens leads all Gophers in career scoring with 1,297 points heading into Wednesday's game. He accomplished 1,000 college points at Lafayette.
• Sean Sutherlin has been on a tear the last three games, scoring double-digit points in each game. During Minnesota's three-game home stand against Northwestern, Wisconsin and Indiana, the senior has scored 35 points.
SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS
• Maryland enters the Minnesota game with a 14-15 record and 6-12 in Big Ten play. The Terps are coming off a home win over ranked Ohio State, 75-60.
• Maryland is coached by interim head coach Danny Manning since Dec. 3 this season. The Terps are led by Fatts Russell, who averages 14.9 points per game, followed by Eric Ayala at 14.4 ppg and Donta Scott at 12.6. Scott also averages a team-best 6.2 rebounds per game.
• As a team, Maryland is averaging 70.6 ppg, allow 70.2 ppg. The Terps are averaging 35.4 rebounds per game and shooting 43.3 percent from the field.
