Johns Island, S.C. – After the shotgun start was delayed 30 minutes because of frost, the University of Minnesota women's golf team played all of round one and part of round two on Monday. With two holes left to play in the round, the Gophers are six-over par in the second round. The last two holes will be played Tuesday morning before round three begins.
Senior Geraldine Wong and junior Grace Curran were at the top of the Gophers' leaderboard at the end of the first round, with scores of even-par (72) and one-over par (73) respectively.
The Maroon and Gold finished the first round at ten-over par (298). That placed them in a tie for eighth place after 18 holes.
Quotable
"With a quick turnaround from Augusta we got off to a great start through our first 9 holes." Head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We made some sloppy mistakes at the turn and turned in a 298 (+10). After a frost delay we were able to play 34 of 36 holes today and currently sit in 10th place. I'm really proud of how the team bounced back and look forward to our best round tomorrow."
