Gophers Finish Tied for 14th at Briar’s Creek Invitational

Johns Island, S.C. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team finished the Briar's Creek Invitational on Tuesday at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C. They finished up the second round Tuesday, which was suspended Monday due to darkness, before starting the third round. Minnesota's final score of 298-296--307 placed them in a tie for 14th at the conclusion of the third and final round.
Junior Grace Curran was atop the leaderboard for the Maroon and Gold, finishing the event with a score of 73-71-77--221 which was good for a tie for 24th place.
47th-ranked Campbell placed first in the tournament, led by Emily Hawkins' 71-70-71--212 tournament score.

"We've got 2 weeks until we play again at IU's event, it's imperative that we use this time to clean up the mental errors we made this week." Head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We continue to stress to the team the importance of golf IQ and course management, and will work over the next 2 weeks on these areas as well as our fundamental basics.
"It was positive to see Grace highlight the weekend with her under par second round. We have belief in these athletes and look forward to competing again in April," Brinsmead said.

Curran's performance included third second-round birdies, which left her at one-under par (71) at the end of the round. She also had two birdies in the third round.
Senior Geraldine Wong finished the event with a tournament score of 72-75--77, placing her in a tie for 45th.
Senior Joanne Free had her best round in round two, where she had four birdies. At the end of the event, Free had a tournament score of 78-73--76, which landed her in a tie for 48th.
Junior Leah Herzog improved from round two to round three, finishing the final round with a score of five-over par (77). Her score across all three rounds was 75-82--77 which was good for an 88th-place tie.
With a score of 83-77--77, junior Emma Carpenter finished the event by improving on her first-round score. She placed in a tie 88th.

The Gophers will be back in action on April 9 and April 10, as they travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Indiana Invitational. The two-day event will be hosted by Indiana University.
