Hooten and Remlinger placed on Second Team, Nylin takes home Sportsmanship Award
The Big Ten announced all-conference teams today for gymnastics and the Gophers were well represented. Seniors Lexy Ramler and Ona Loper were both named to the First Team, while sophomore Mya Hooten and junior Halle Remlinger were named to the Second Team. Minnesota's Sportsmanship Honoree was Abbie Nylin.
Ramler and Loper have defined Minnesota gymnastics excellence and during the last several years and this is the fifth time (every season since 2018) that Ramler has been First Team All-Big Ten and it is the fourth time (every season since 2019) that Loper has been honored.
Ramler, who was also named Big Ten Gymnast of the Year in 2019, 2020 and 2021, is currently ranked tied for No. 5 in the nation in all-around with Loper. Ramler, who received the AAI Award last season, is ranked No. 5 in the nation on the beam and is also ranked tied for 16th on the bars. She is tied for 35th on the floor and tied for 54th on the vault. Ramler has set or tied career highs this year on the beam (10.000), bars (9.975) and floor (9.975). She has one perfect 10 this year, which came on the beam at home against Iowa.
Loper, who is one of six finalists for the AAI Award this year, is tied for fifth in the nation in the all-around with Ramler. She is ranked third on vault and is tied for 19th on the floor. She is also tied for 38th on the bars and tied for 56th on the beam. Loper has set or tied career highs this year on vault (10.000), bars (9.950), beam (9.925), floor (9.950) and the all-around (39.750). She has two perfect 10s this year, which came on the vault at home against Michigan and on the road in a tri-meet at Maryland.
Hooten is one of the most dominant gymnasts on the floor this year, as she has three perfect 10s on her resume. She recorded them at home against Michigan, Iowa and in a quad-meet against LIU, Temple and Utah State. She is not ranked nationally on the floor because she has not competed in the event the minimum amount of times to be ranked. Hooten is the only Gopher gymnast in program history to record a perfect 10 on the floor, as she also did so against Nebraska in 2021. Hooten also set a career high on vault this year with a 9.975 against Iowa at home and on the road at Utah and tied her career high on bars with a 9.875 multiple times. This is the second time that Hooten has been named to an all-conference team, as she was named First Team All-Big Ten last season.
Remlinger has been a constant on bars and floor this year. She has set career highs in both with a 9.875 on bars against Iowa and a 9.950 on the floor against LIU, Temple and Utah State. This is the first time that Remlinger was named to an all-conference team.
Minnesota will compete in the Big Ten championships on Saturday, March 19, in Columbus, Ohio. The Gophers are the defending champions as they won the meet last year when they recorded a then-team best 197.750 as the host.
