'U' Heads to Iowa for Final B1G Tune-up

The Gophers compete against Iowa, Oregon State, Central Florida, Southern California and Wisconsin on Friday.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Gopher rowing program heads to Iowa this weekend for Minnesota's final competition before next month's Big Ten championships. The Maroon & Gold will hit the water on Friday, April 29 against Iowa, Oregon State, Central Florida, Southern California and Wisconsin -- competing at the Coralville Reservoir. Friday's event is tentatively scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. CT.

Minnesota is coming off competition at the second annual B1G Invitational earlier this month in Sarasota, Fla. The Maroon & Gold closed out the two-day event with a win from the Second Varsity Eight while the 'U' added a trio of second-place finishes on the water.
Academic Excellence
The Gophers set academic records for Academic All-Big Ten honorees (42), Big Ten Distinguished Scholars (23), CRCA Scholar Athletes (14) and team cumulative GPA (3.50) last season during the 2020-21 campaign, and things have only improved so far in 2021-22 as Minnesota improved its team cumulative GPA record to 3.54 in Fall 2021.
Gophers Name Trio of Captains
The University of Minnesota rowing program and head coach Alicea Strodel have announced team captains for the 2021-22 season with Lindsay Eliasen, Gabby Mullally and Casey Wempner leading the Maroon & Gold. Eliasen and Mullally return as captains for the second-straight year while Wempner joins the leadership group this year.
Looking Ahead
Minnesota will return to the water with the Big Ten championships on Sunday, May 15 in Indianapolis.
